Challenge:

The client embarked on a digital transformation process to streamline document handling and communication for their forklift operators. The goal was to replace paper documentation with tablets mounted on the forklifts. However, after implementing a large number of tablets, the manual process of updating the company’s app on each device became time-consuming. IT staff or developers had to physically visit the worksite to update each tablet individually. Furthermore, tablet users had too much access, which often resulted in accidental deletion of the company app or the Wi-Fi password.

Solution:

We conducted a thorough search of the available Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems on the market and selected the one best suited to the client’s needs. We oversaw the implementation and prepared a virtual machine on which the MDM system operates. All the tablets in the organisation were connected to the MDM system, and over time, the company’s drivers’ mobile phones were also added to the system.

With the MDM system in place, the company’s developers can now remotely update the company app, ensuring all devices are running the most up-to-date version. The IT department has a real-time overview of each tablet’s status, including battery health, serial numbers, installed apps, and the tablet’s location. IT staff can also send text messages directly to forklift operators, as well as install or remove necessary applications remotely.
